メガネは視力の矯正だけでなく、ライフスタイルの一部としてあなたを表現するアイテムでもあります。自分らしく暮らすために、コップや家具、クッションを選ぶように、メガネも暮らしを彩る空間の一員として存在し、自分にフィットしたインテリアの一部を身につけて、今日が始まる。そんなシリーズ「001.（ワンドット）」を、ロンドンを拠点に家具やインテリアなどのデザインを手がける安積朋子氏と作りました。
Eyewear is a reflection of one's living environment and it represents how you live. When choosing your eyewear for the day, you wear a piece of your interior with you… This was our first concept for this new series. The brand name 001. suggests kicking off a new day by completing your look.

001.（ワンドット）」は、年齢を重ねるごとにファッションという身近な視点が自分のライフスタイルへと広がることを考え、家具や照明器具、インテリアなどのデザインを手がける安積朋子氏を起用して生まれました。シンプルながらも他には見ない繊細なディテールが、メガネ産地の工場の丁寧な仕事で実現し、顧客のみなさまへ届きます。
To develop new products with the concept “to wear your living style”, we have appointed the London based Tomoko Azumi, who designs products, furniture and interior spaces for multinational clients.
「メガネとファッションの親和性はだれもが考えることですが、メガネを外して置いた時にはインテリアの一部になるのだし、暮らしの道具として見たらどうなるだろう？という視点が、プロジェクトのはじまりでした。いろいろな暮らしのシーンを集め、どんなディテールをメガネに使うと『暮らしの一部を身につけて歩く』楽しみが生まれるのか？を考えました。
“At the beginning of this project we started to look at details of our interiors to discover elements which could be translated into the language of eyewear.
美しいと感じる色や形、触りたいと思う素材感、知的に愛でる構造やメカニズム。そう思って眺めると、暮らしの中には身に付けてみたい、たくさんのディテールがありました。ひとつひとつを拾い上げ、メガネの機能と共存させることを考えながらスケッチをして紙モデルを作ったのが、デザインの開発プロセスです。
We collected many details which we wanted to touch, colours to admire, and mechanical elegance to feed our intellect. Picking those up, one by one, and thinking how to use them within the function of eyewear was the process through which we translated our thoughts into sketches and paper models, during design development.
鯖江のメガネ工場を見学し、素材や工法について学んだのも重要なプロセスのひとつです。素材の組み合わせでどんな表情が生まれ、どんな形を与えることで、その素材感が引き立つのか。たくさんの会話と素材サンプル、図面のやり取りののちに試作が届いた時、メガネの機能性と、最初のコンセプトがそこにちゃんと表現されているかを、もう一度チェックしました。小さいながら重要な修正を細かくたくさんお願いして、職人の方たちの根気づよい仕事がすっきりとした形をとった、4種類のメガネが誕生しました。メガネをかける時に目に映る、テンプルの先の赤いドットは、日本で生まれた感性と品質を誇る小さな印でもあります。」
Visiting artisan factories at Sabae, in Fukui prefecture, was crucial in providing us with many insights into materials and methods. After numerous conversations, examining material samples, drawings, prototypes and pages of feedback and corrections - the beautifully finished final products were born. They have a small red dot at each end of the temples, the signature of our design aesthetic as well as the quality and pride of Sabae craftspeople”
安積朋子 Tomoko Azumi TNA Design Studio主宰
1966年広島生まれ。京都市立芸術大学環境デザイン科で建築を、Royal College of Artで家具デザインを学び、1995年にロンドンでデザイン事務所を創設。TNAデザインスタジオは、 多国籍のデザイナーがそれぞれの得意分野を持ち寄り、家具や照明器具、ジュエリーなどのプロダクトデザインと店舗インテリアや展示会などの空間デザインを手がける。Victoria & Albert博物館などヨーロッパの博物館に作品収蔵多数。2007年から2012年まで通産省のグッドデザイン・アワードの審査員を、2006年から2014年は母校Royal College of Artの講師をつとめた。
Born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1966, trained as an architect at Kyoto City University of Arts and studied Furniture Design MA at the Royal College of Art. Following a ten year partnership as AZUMI, Tomoko Azumi opened TNA Design Studio in 2005. Alongside her design practice, she has been involved in teaching at universities and being a member of design prize juries in numerous design awards. Her designs are in the permanent collections of museums in Europe, including the V&A, London.
